Scallop season in the Crystal River and Homosassa zone runs July 1 through September 24 each year, 2026 included. We run private scalloping trips on the 27′ AmeraCat catamaran for the whole season, leaving from our launch in Crystal River. You don’t need a fishing license: our FWC charter license covers everyone on board, including for scallops.
Morning trips leave at 8:00 AM and afternoon trips at 1:00 PM, both 4 hours and from $550 for up to 2 people. The full day is 7 hours from 7:00 AM, from $895, and the 8-hour fishing and scalloping combo leaves at 8:00 AM, from $995 for up to 4. Each extra person is $50, up to 6 on board.
What the trip is like
We run out to the grass flats and you snorkel in shallow, clear water, usually 2 to 8 feet deep, picking bay scallops up by hand. There’s no fishing skill involved and no deep diving, which is why we point families with kids to this trip. We show you what to look for, help you find your catch, and shuck the scallops for you.
The catamaran’s big dive ladder makes getting in and out of the water easy. Snorkel, mask and fins, a cooler, ice and water are on board, we clean and package your catch at the end of the trip, and pictures from the day are included. Bring a towel, sunscreen and a snack.
Limits and rules
FWC allows 2 gallons of whole scallops (or 1 pint of meat) per person and 10 gallons whole (or half a gallon of meat) per boat. FWC sets the season dates and can close a zone mid-season for water quality. We confirm the current rules before every trip, and it’s worth checking FWC’s bay scallop page before you book.
Other options
If some of your group would rather fish, the fishing and scalloping combo puts snorkeling and fishing in the same 8-hour day; call us and we’ll tell you how the day usually splits.
